While we continue to work on various badges over the next few weeks, we will also be taking some time to focus on giving back to the community and charitable work. Last week we took time to thank our Veterans. This week, in addition to working on our creative craft badge we are hoping to fill 2 or 3 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Next week we will be talking with representatives from Shepherds of Good Hope, making scarves for those in need this winter and collecting canned food items.
Operation Christmas Child (November 13): This week, we are wondering if the girls would be able to bring in some small gifts (e.g. dollar store items) to fill shoeboxes for children in countries such as Haiti, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Chile, Senegal, Guinea or Ukraine. Items can include: school supplies, books, stuffies, small musical items, hair clips, clothing, hygiene items such as combs, toothbrushes, washcloths and soap and/or candy for a girl aged 10 to 14. We would also welcome cash donations (a loonie or two would be great) to help with the $7 shipping fee for each box. The girls will fill boxes at our meeting after we are done working on our crafts for the creative craft badge. For more information on this program please see this link:

Scarves and food drive for the Shepherds of Good Hope (November 20): A representative from the Shepherds of Good Hope will meet with the Guides to tell us a bit about what they do. We will also be collecting canned food items for the organization, as well as making scarves. ** We could really use a couple of parent helpers to help cut and pin the polar fleece for the girls. Please let Jen know if you can help, or even loan us a pair of fabric scissors for the evening. Any help would be appreciated!
Other news:
Winter camp forms will be available shortly. Stay tuned! They will need to be returned promptly with payment to ensure a spot, as numbers are limited at Woolsey.
Yours in Guiding,
Jen, Lisa and Alice
