We are meeting September 25! A few other reminders as well...

Hi Families,

Just a reminder that we are meeting this week at Canyon Walk Daycare at 6:15pm. We may spend part of the meeting outdoors if it is nice, so please have your guide dress for the weather.

Also, please remind your guide to have a look at the horseshoe formation video on our earlier post , and to have a look through her book to see which 5 badges she would like to work on over the year (we will pick the most popular 3 to work on in addition to our other plans). Badge testing will be available if requested.

Cookies: they arrive tomorrow and will be available for pick up on Thursday. To pick-up your cookies, please speak to Alice. We would ask you to bring a “down payment” cheque for your case (again please discuss options with Alice if your guide plans to sell more than one case). The cheque should be payable to Girl Guides of Canada – 4th Riverside South Guides and can be post-dated for 2 weeks. If you would like to sell the cookies and return with cash instead, we will return your cheque. We ask that each girl try to sell one case at least on their own. If they wish to sell more, there are many prize incentives from Girl Guides for girls who sell multiple cases. Thank you for your help with these sales – the $12 the unit earns from each case goes directly towards funding unit activities.

Camp: Please check your email for a slightly-revised camp kit list (it is a bit shorter now), as well as the camp information letter as a reminder for those attending camp this weekend. Please note that camp starts at 9am Saturday and pick-up time is 11am Sunday. I also sent the medication (H3) form: if your guide needs medication while at camp, please bring this form to camp completed. If the weather forecast holds we are in for a great weekend!

That’s all for now. See you Thursday!

Reminder: meeting cancelled Sept 18

Hi Families,

Just a reminder that the meeting is cancelled for this week due to Meet the Teacher night at SMPS. We'll meet on September 25 at Canyon Walk Daycare, which was confirmed today as our official meeting place for the year. The Guides are reminded to take a look through their program book if they have it, so see which badges they would like to try and earn this year. We are going to pick some of the most popular ones to work on as a group.

Please note that cookies will likely be available for pick-up on September 25, but we will confirm closer to the day. Please bring a cheque for you Guide's case ($60, made out to Girl Guides of Canada) when you pick up the cookies. Given the early cookie delivery date, we have had to rejig our schedule a bit to bump up cookie selling to October 2. Please see the revised calendar of events in our earlier post.

Also, please remind your Guide to look at the Horseshoe formation video (last post). This horseshoe may be different than what your Guide has practiced in previous years. We are also learning the song in the video this year.

See you on the 25th!

Guiding Horseshoe Video

Hi Families!

Thanks to the girls for a great night last night. As you can see, we have a big group!

We were talking about the horseshoe formation last night, and asked the Guides to have a look at the attached video.

First meeting details - September 11

Hi Families,

This is just to confirm that we are having our first meeting this Thursday, September 11. We will be meeting at Canyon Walk Daycare (attached to Steve MacLean Public School), and the meeting runs from 6:15 to 8pm. Please remind your Guide to bring the following to the meeting:

1. Completed H1 form (compulsory for the first evening - please see my email from September 6)
2. Camp forms and payment (SG2 with cheques made payable to Girl Guides of Canada – please see my email from September 6)
3. Indoor shoes (preferably runners, but bring what you can)
4. Dues ($1 each week to cover crafts and badges)
5. Uniform and program book (** see below)
6. Water bottle (optional)
7. Gardening gloves (optional – if you have seen the SMPS garden you’ll note that it needs a little TLC. As part of our environment challenge, over the next few weeks we are going to spend a few minutes weeding the gardens for them)
8. Bag for everything

** Uniform: The Unit has decided to wait until after the first meeting to place its Guide store order, as the girls will be voting on their patrol badges and we want to see if any girls have earned badges over the summer. Our goal is to have our first order back before enrollment. If you need to order something for your Guide and are willing to wait a few weeks for it, please email me (Jen).

The Leaders are all looking forward to Thursday!
