Intro and a few quick questions

Dear Families,

Welcome to 4th Riverside South Guides! We know this welcome letter may seem early (didn’t we just finish a Guiding year!?!), however a few things have come to our attention that we thought were important to mention before summer officially starts. (Plus, Lisa and I just finished the Guider training over the weekend and we are very excited to get the ball rolling for next year!!) We’d be grateful if you could reply to the following questions by June 7, as it would make the planning we intend to do over the summer a lot easier.

Cookie sales: Could you please let us know how many cases of mint chocolate cookies your Guide would like to sell this fall? Every girl is required to take one case to sell, but if she would like to sell more, please let us know how many cases. Please keep in mind that, as a brand-new unit next year, any additional cookie sales we can make will go a long way in financing extracurricular trips/activities and badges. We also plan to do some group selling.

Badges: In order to start our programming plan for next year, we need to have an idea of which badges each girl has (we have girls coming from various units who have been in Guides for various lengths of time). Could you please either:

1) send us a photo of all the badges your Guide has (e.g. just take a close-up picture of her sash), or
2) highlight the badges she has in the attached document and send it back to me (Jen C)?

Any help you can give us in this regard would be great – we’d like to minimize repetition of badges girls have already covered and we would like to make sure the 3rd year girls have the best chance possible of completing all of the Guide programming.

Guide Store: Do you need anything from the Guide Store? Lisa is placing an order on June 8. If you would like to share on the shipping costs, please let us know your order by June 7.

Other notes:
Biking Badge: If your Guide is in Grade 4 at Steve MacLean Public School, her participation in the bike rodeo at the school tomorrow (May 28) will earn her the Biking interest badge. Please let us know if your Guide is participating and, if possible, please get her teacher to sign the biking page in the Guide book. We will order the badges.

Blog: We have a blog: www.4thriversidesouthguides.blogspot.ca. We will try to update it each week, so please remember to check it before the each Thursday’s meeting. Over the summer we’ll post program information (requirements for the Lady Baden Powell challenge, some of which will need to be done at home, etc.), so feel free to check it regularly.

Camp: The fall camp is tentatively scheduled for October 3-5. Stay tuned for details!

Thank you in advance for your help. And please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. We are looking forward to getting to know your Guides better in the fall and will be in touch again via email towards the end of the summer.

Yours in Guiding,

Jen Collins, Alice and Lisa
